I do not have a formal advising load. As a faculty member in the Human Relations degree program, advising was managed by a staff member student recruitment and advising for the Center for Professional Advancement and degree completion programs. As an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy and my current role as Director of the Counseling & Wellness Center I do not have an advising case load.

As departmental subject matter expert and consultant, I do provide informal advising and mentoring to students who are interested in substance use topics and professional options.

In academic year 2016-17, my first Pfeiffer teaching duties including the internship course (HMRL 530). I updated the program internship manual and developed processes for students to access quality field experiences. These processes involved meeting individually with students and field placement site supervisors to assess students’ strengths and growth areas. These duties lasted through the life of the program.

In Spring semester 2018 I created an internship opportunity for four HMRL students, under my direction. Weekly we met as a group to plan and implement psychoeducational programming for Pfeiffer undergraduate students; this project was a collaboration with the Pfeiffer Counseling Center. Pfeiffer Life credit was earned by program attendees.

In Spring semester 2019 I was the recipient of a North Carolina Problem Gambling Program grant to promote education and awareness about gambling risk behaviors. I worked closely with a MMFT graduate student on this project. We worked with several local colleges and universities, including the Pfeiffer undergraduate campus.

In Fall 2019 I worked with graduate MMFT students to develop a substance use disorder treatment model for delivery at their field placement site, the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Charlotte NC. In 2020, I am again working with this site to develop their programming and promote student professional growth.

Across my affiliation with Pfeiffer University I provide guidance and clinical supervision to students interested in pursuing certification as a substance use professional.
