Robert m Cox, EdD LPC LCAS CCS-I CCMHC NCC ACS is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy at Pfeiffer University-Charlotte teaching courses in the Bachelors of Human Relations and Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy programs. He coordinates the substance use disorder treatment counseling certificate as well as the problem gambling outreach and awareness program. Dr Cox is a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina and Tennessee, a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist and Certified Clinical Supervisor Intern in North Carolina. His private practice includes work with substance-affected families, crisis intervention, and consulting and training on clinical topics.
Dr Cox is a long-term resident of North Carolina who earned a bachelor’s (1992) and master’s (1998) degree from Appalachian State University in Community Counseling with a concentration in Addiction Treatment services. He earned his Doctor of Education degree in Counseling and Counselor Education from The University of Memphis in 2016. His doctoral work included an evaluation of group counseling with inmates with mental illness.
Research, academic, and professional interests of Dr Cox include crisis intervention, integrated care, substance use disorders, families affected by substance use, corrections, group counseling, and applications of mindfulness in counseling. He has specific interests in program development and continuing counselor education.
